Already awarded the honorary title of “the most cited publication in NeuroImaging between 1980 and 2012”, the article has been ranked by the second in the top 100 cited CEA (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique) publications out of a total of 115,000 indexed publications since 1975 (1).
With nearly 5000 citations, this article published by Nathalie Tzourio-Mazoyer et al. in the journal NeuroImage in 2002 presents a digital atlas of the human brain available to the entire community of researchers in human neuroimaging. It is used to describe regions of cerebral activation and is currently the most used anatomical parcellation of the human brain, especially in connectomics. A new version (AAL2) was published at the end of 2015.
